Articles and AnnouncementsSince 1982, time clocks have evolved into electronic models, becoming less mechanical, circuit boards have replaced timing motors, dot matrix printers have replaced print wheels, and the employers of today must meet even more strict demands to pay their employees on-time and accurately. Overtime, premium, on call, and shift differential pay, along with a host of other types of wages attached to hours worked, constantly evolve through labor negotiations representing the employees. Employee pay has, and will, always be attached to hours worked. These hours, and the pay associated with them, are the major cost of doing business and represent the livelihood of employees, and the success of employers. Changing Times, Maybe Not:In the time equipment industry, the concern is on hours worked, and employers must collect those hours in accordance with Federal and State Wage and Hours laws. Usually it is by means of a time clock, but the definition of a time clock back in 1959 through 1982 was an Electro-mechanical device that provided a print "punch" on a time card. Thousands of these units are still in use, and continue to be produced, even today.
